Different Industries Using Ozone

Introduction

In the world of innovative industries, it’s necessary to implement new practices and ensure the safety of our consumers and the reliability of our services. In this blog, I will be discussing how the following industries: Car Wash and Pest Control can implement ozone into their daily practices to bring up customer satisfaction, healthiness, and safety.

Why Choose Ozone?

I’m sure many are wondering, why choose ozone? Well, ozone is an effective disinfectant that helps clean water, pathogens, etc. In every industry being clean and executing safety measures effectively is not only necessary morally but is also necessary for smoothly running a business. Ozone naturally seeks out harmful substances and destroys them. From the Medical Journal Medicina, “Ozone is an excellent disinfectant thanks to its chemical characteristics to attack and oxidize all types of organic and inorganic compounds.” (Rubio-Romero, J.C.; Pardo-Ferreira, M.D.C.; Torrecilla-García, J.A.; Calero-Castro, S. Disposable masks: Disinfection and sterilization for reuse, and non-certified manufacturing, in the face of shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic. Saf. Sci. 2020, 129, 104830. Car Washes: Thoroughness = Customer Satisfaction

When it comes to car washes, they consume a lot of water, and a lot of chemicals are used. Ozone can be incorporated to help clean the water mixed with chemicals that are going back into the earth. According to the Environmental Engineering Research Journal, “The car wash industry is among the industries that consume large amounts of water and require a lot of chemical use. Car wash wastewater may contain various pollutants such as detergents, phosphates, waxes, petroleum, and a wide range of hydrocarbons that make these effluents to toxic life.” (DURNA, E., & GENÇ, D. (2020). Application of a multiple criteria analysis for the selection of appropriate radical based processes in treatment of car wash wastewater. Environmental Engineering Research. https://doi.org/10.4491/eer.2020.115)

In the article, they found that combining AOPs ( advanced oxidation processes) which is an oxidation process that produces great results in quantities affects the chemical degradation of pollutants in car wash water. Combining Ozone with those AOPs has been found to be very effective. “Ozone-based AOP’S are much more efficient than ozone process alone in the removal of refractory compounds.” (DURNA, E., & GENÇ, D. (2020). Application of a multiple criteria analysis for the selection of appropriate radical based processes in treatment of car wash wastewater. Environmental Engineering Research. https://doi.org/10.4491/eer.2020.115)

There are also opportunities for optimized service for customers using ozone. Ozone can be used to clean the inside of cars and get rid of lingering and unpleasant smells. That method is called ozone car treatment. Ozone car treatment gets rid of viruses, bacteria, and foul smells. It is so easy to lose track of car smells such as spilled food, smoke, liquids, etc. It’s so easy to say,” I’ll clean it up later.” Later comes and those smells are now lingering and won’t go away for a long time. That’s where ozone can come in.  ‌

Pest Control: Killing Pest without Killing the Earth

Fleas, Termites, and Rodents are just a few examples of living creatures who love to come into our homes uninvited. Pests. Pest control is out there to help get rid of them thankfully but, it turns out that the pesticides used to kill these pests can cause problems with soil, pollution, and passing off chemicals. Adding ozone to the elimination is a safer and healthier alternative. I found an article that tested a portable ozone mist system on pests disturbing a farm. They detailed how ozone is a good alternative to pesticides. “Ozone shows excellent sterilization effects and no persistent toxicity since it decomposes into oxygen within half an hour under normal condition.”  “Ozone is free from environmental pollution and health damage as far as in proper usage.” (Takigawa, K., Ueno, K., Nagatomo, T., Mitsugi, F., Ikegami, T., Ebihara, K., Nakamura, N., Hashimoto, Y., & Yamashita, Y. (n.d.). Experiment of pest control with portable ozone mist device. Retrieved August 25, 2023, from https://www.ispc-conference.org/ispcproc/ispc21/ID136.pdf). ‌After using their portable ozone mist system, their results were astonishing, they found that the survival rate of the pests was 3.3% for 5 second treatment time.
