Ozone Monitors Discussed

Testing the Waters--the Importance of Ozone Concentration and Water Cleanliness

The Purpose of Testing the Water

You will need to test the waters for contaminants as a step in determining what ozone concentration you require for your application. It is an important step, as your water will need a certain level of ozone to combat the contaminants based on those contaminants and on your application.

Sending Off for the Test is Easy

Please send your water off to a reputable tester in your area or arrange to have A2Z Ozone have your water professionally tested. Call us at 502-499-4977, Option 2, for more information.

Testing the Ozone Concentration

A2Z Ozone has always understood how important it is to test your ozone. So A2Z Ozone provides several methods. These methods are available for personal use, all the way up to industrial use.

A2Z Ozone Monitor/Ozone Analyzer

 A2Z Ozone Monitor/Ozone Analyzer

My favorite is our very own A2Z Ozone Monitor/Ozone Analyzer. We designed this one in 2018. We created it in response to your requests for a more compact, precise monitor. Industry and science applications are the primary beneficiaries of this type of monitor.

Printer

Also, it has a printer, so that you can check your ozone. Please note, the meter is for reading purposes only.

Calculations for the A2Z Ozone Monitor/Ozone Analyzer

mg/L x 1L/min x 60min/hour = mg/hour ozone output

ozone monitor reading at 1 LPM: reading 4.2 mg/L

4.2 mg/L x 1 L/min x 60min/h = 252 mg/h O3 output

Our newer video shows the connection to a small ozone cell and board. The key takeaway on this video is to Zero Out the unit--a very important step to using the A2Z Ozone Monitor / Ozone Analyzer successfully.

Simple Directions for Use:

As soon as you plug the A2Z Ozone Monitor / Ozone Analyzer into an electrical outlet, the unit turns on.

The A2Z Ozone Monitor / Ozone Analyzer takes about 120 seconds to completely initialize.
Attach PTFE tubing to the Ozone In port located on the back of the A2Z Ozone Monitor / Ozone Analyzer.
Attach the other end of this tubing to the Ozone Outlet on the ozone generator of your choosing.
To get the most accurate reading, zero out the A2Z Ozone Monitor / Ozone Analyzer with the red Enter/Zero button.

Find the red Enter/Zero button on the front of the monitor:

  1. Run the ozone generator unit through ambient air or oxygen source, depending on what reading you are trying to achieve.
  2. While the unit is on, press the red “Enter” button.
  3. Press “Enter” again after the unit beeps.
  4. Zero the monitor at 1 L/minute flow rate and then start the ozone generator to get accurate readings.

This meter is for reading purposes only.
Actual results are at a 1 liter/minute flow rate.
Use PTFE tubing for best results.

ATI Model Q46H/64 Dissolved Ozone Monitor

This dissolved ozone monitor comes from a reputable company, Analytical Technology, Inc. It is ideal for online monitoring.

Water Quality Measured

With the ATI Model Q46H/64 Dissolved Ozone Monitor, you can control the water quality of dissolved ozone. A2Z Ozone recommends this unit based on its high quality and reliability. This document will provide the Specifications.

Designed for Precision

Scientists rely on this monitor for their ozone measurements. It measures dissolved ozone concentrations as low as 0-200 Parts Per Billion. Pharmaceutical research demands a sensitive monitor. It can also reach 0-2 Parts Per Million in a setting for industrial needs. So, the monitor is ideal for water bottling systems or municipal water treatment.

Pulse Instruments ORP Model 7515

Another reputable company, Pulse Instruments offers a variety of precision instruments for measuring. Our favorite is the ORP Model 7515. This model has automatic temperature compensation, calibration, and buffer recognition.

Fish Maintenance

We use this ORP on our fish tank. It tells us both the pH and the ORP. The ORP measurement is of the oxidation reduction potential (or mV). This figure reveals the contaminant levels of wastewater, most often. We use of an Aqua-8 Ozone Generator. Also, we use a filtration system and the movement of water through that system. The ORP also allows us to see how the ozone generator is working to reduce contaminants in the water.

Oxidation-Reduction Potential

But enough about us and our fish tank. According to a PDF article by Environment and Natural Resources, a Canadian web publication, "Oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) measures the ability of a lake or river to cleanse itself or break down waste products, such as contaminants and dead plants and animals. When the ORP value is high, there is lots of oxygen present in the water."

PH and ORP

Albert Noroozi says to keep the pH at 7 to 8, and the ORP reading to 400 for the ideal readings. The PDF article suggested 300 to 500 is a healthy water reading for a river or lake.

SenSafe Ozone Check Strips

SenSafe Ozone Check Strips Perhaps the simplest ozone monitor we recommend is the SenSafe Ozone Check Strips. These work well with some industrial and scientific applications. But, we like to tell our customers who buy the personal water ozone generators about these strips. They are so convenient and allow you to have a visual of the amount of ozone you have in your water.

According to Albert Noroozi, "Use SenSafe ozone testing to ensure your ozone level is between 0.4 and 0.5 ppm."
