New, exciting activities come with the changing of the season. With the first week of fall officially under our belts, it’s time to start thinking about the fun times that it brings. A lot of people celebrate by heading out to a pumpkin patch to select the perfect pumpkin. You take your time, scope all of them out, and finally, choose the perfect one to take home with you. Whether you’re planning on making Jack-O-Lanterns, pumpkin pie, or just keeping them around for decoration, it’s important to know what’s in your home. You know where these pumpkins came from – you were just there! Anything you bring into your home from outside can carry any number of bacteria. So, it’s important to properly clean this cornerstone of fall – our pumpkins! Although ozone is a powerful disinfectant that oxidizes bacteria and viruses, oxygen is its only residual chemical. Nice and clean. Using ozonated water to rinse your pumpkins (and other fall vegetables) will properly clean them and keep your family safe for display or consumption. Ozone can also extend the shelf life of vegetables!
To help keep your pumpkins fresh and clean, follow these steps:
- Fill your sink with water. Average sized sinks should be half-full.
- Place the diffusion stone 2 to 4 inches deep into the water
- Place the produce to be treated in the water
- Operate the Aqua-8 or Aqua-6 for 10 minutes. For the Aqua-8, this is Function #5. If using the Aqua-6, this is Function #3.
- Allow the produce to sit in the ozonated water for up to 30 minutes.
- Next, remove the produce from the ozonated water and enjoy!
If your pumpkin is too large for the sink, create ozonated water using steps above, omitting placing the produce into the sink. Then, get a clean rag and use the sanitized water to rinse the dirt from your pumpkin.
You can also use our faucet aerator for this application. Hook it up to your faucet, turn it on, and wash your veggies with ozonated water on demand!
In case of accidental leakage of ozone, keep the ozone generator in a
well- ventilated area.
Ozone generators emit ozone. Do not inhale ozone.
Ozone generators generate high voltage.
