How to Remove Odors in Hotel Rooms October 23 2017, 0 Comments

The last thing a tired traveler wants to be met with after arriving in their hotel room is an unpleasant odor. Whether it's musty, smoke odors, or lingering pet odors, A2Z's portable ozone generators can be used to eradicate odors quickly leaving the room smelling fresh and clean.

“In a 2012 survey of 52,000 properties conducted by the American Hotel & Lodging Association, 63 percent reported being 100 percent smoke-free,” NBC News reported.

However, this doesn’t mean that smokers are always following the rules. The NBC News article went on to say, “Many of the estimated 43.8 million adult smokers in the U.S. who travel will smoke even if they have to rent a nonsmoking room.”

Shawn Bradley, founder of Smoketels, a website focused on helping smokers find smoke-friendly hotel rooms, says those who smoke in non-smoking rooms will attempt to hide the smell. “They’ll burn candles, use cologne, blow the smoke out the windows, all in an effort to mask the smoke,” Bradley told NBC News. This is a concern for all travelers because their non-smoking hotel room could have a lingering smoke smell as these methods simply masks the odor, not eradicates it.

“Certainly, a hotel guest has the right to smoke, but if you've ever stayed in a hotel where the previous guest smoked in the room, you know that the stench of tobacco lingers for days and gets into your clothes,” writes Christopher Elliott, a Chicago Tribune editor.

One way USA Today has recommended to remove odors in hotel rooms is with an ozone generator. The portable, lightweight Aqua-6 ozone generator is an ideal choice for travelers because of its design. The unit produces 600 mg/hr and is perfect to use for short periods of time throughout the day. The device features a functional timer with 15 settings for different applications that can operate on its own if the room is unoccupied. The Aqua-6 is particularly useful if you have pet odor, smoke damage, or just simply want to keep the room smelling fresh and clean.

A2Z Ozone also manufactures a more powerful version of the portable Aqua-6, the Aqua-8. This newly designed device features 800 mg/hr and is able to stand on its own. This makes the Aqua-8 the premiere choice for ozone treatment on the go.

The use of ozone by hotels is not new. In 1992, the LA Times reported, “Ozone purifying units are now being used by a number of major hotel chains nationwide, among them Hilton, Sheraton, Marriott and Days Inns.” For commercial purposes, the A7K would be the ideal unit. The A7K is designed to shock treat a room to destroy odors and/or mold in the area. At an ozone output of 7,000 mg/hr, the A7K is significantly more powerful than the Aqua-6.

“Ozone-producing units also are used, as hotel spokesmen describe it, to convert smoking rooms to nonsmoking rooms, a process that takes about an hour. If a guest smokes in a nonsmoking room, it normally takes 20 to 30 minutes to sanitize the room and return it to nonsmoking status,” the LA Times article continued.

Ozone can also be used to extend the life of hotel linens
